The Royal Order of Scotland is an ancient chivalric order, activated on St. John's day, June 24th, 1314, by King Robert the Bruce of Scotland, following the Battle of Bannockburn. He bestowed this order on 63 knights who swayed the tide of battle in his favor, believed to be Knights Templar. The Order has been in continuous existence since that time. Membership into the Royal Order of Scotland is by invitation only, and prerequisites for invitation include being a Freemason and Christian.
